| In alliance with Panthers, BJP to sacrifice: Udhampur, Samba, Ramnagar, Chenani | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 21: Desperate to become part of the next government in Jammu and Kashmir, state unit of BJP is seriously thinking to enter into alliance with Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP)- which has helped BJP to win prestigious Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat in just concluded Assembly elections. Credible sources in the BJP said that serious discussions were going on in the party platform to enter into alliance with JKPNPP to keep a check on division of pro-Jammu votes and to get maximum seats from Jammu region. A group within the party is of the opinion that alliance with JKNPP would help the party to win maximum seats in Kathua and Reasi districts. Credible sources further revealed that BJP had earlier sent a proposal to the JKNPP but the later had demanded atleast a dozen seats for pre-poll alliance. The proposal could not materialized but again party has started the process because JKNPP has worked over-whelming to ensure defeat of Congress stalwart Ghulam Nabi Azad from Udhampur-Doda seat by transferring its votes to BJP candidate Dr Jatindra Singh. Votes secured by JKNPP candidate Prof Bhim Singh is reflection of the sincerity showed by the party to ensure defeat of Ghulam Nabi Azad. In 2009 Parliament elections, JKNPP got 14728 votes, when polling was just 39 percent. This time when polling was nearly 72 percents, shockingly, it got only 4483 votes. Same is the situation in Chenani and Ramnagar segments where party got 3004 and 10805 votes while it got 12896 and 22429 respectively. Sources in the BJP said that party is virtually indebted by the magnanimity showed by the JKNPP in Lok Sabha elections so a group is pressurizing to pay back. "The party is ready to leave Udhampur, Ramnagar, Chenani, Samba and other couple of segments for the JKNPP to form alliance with JKNPP", sources said and further revealed that BJP would accept all demands of JKNPP to keep a check on the divide of pro-Jammu votes. Credible sources in the BJP said that a group is strongly opposing giving Samba and Udhampur seats to JKNPP but party has to take decisions in the larger interests so those opposing giving Udhampur seat to JKNPP would be satisfied. |
