| KP body to conduct survey of community voters | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 21: Peeved over the deletion of names of majority voters of the community from electoral rolls and terming it a deliberate move on the part of State Government to deprive the community from their democratic rights and show the world that few thousand Pandits were living in Kashmir, the newly constituted Displaced Front has decided to conduct the survey of the community all over the country to put the record straight. This was decided in an emergency meeting of the organization here today the name of which was also changed from Displaced Kashmiris Democratic Party to Displaced Front with a voice vote. The meeting was chaired by the president of the Front Satish Pajnoo and among others it was attended by its senior leaders Pushkar Nath Pandit, Jawaharlal Pandit and Makhan Lal. It decided to ascertain the facts and put the real figure before the Election Commission of India regarding the actual number of KP voters, the Front will have a countrywide door to door survey of the community by visiting every location where the Pandits are putting up after their mass exodus from the Valley. Talking to this reporter Pajnoo said that deliberately the KP voters' names are not enrolled in the voter lists by the authorities to give an impression that a negligible number of Pandits were living in Kashmir whose number is not more than one lakh to counter the claim of the displaced Pandits that their number is not less than over sevenlakh. Pajnoo said to substantiate its claims the Front has decided to conduct door to door survey of the community in Jammu and other parts of country by deputing a team of dedicated activists to put the record before the Election Commission of India and the Census Department and ask them to put the record straight. Pajnoo said at first instance the survey would be conducted at Jammu in all camps and non camp areas by the volunteers of the Front which will be followed by Udhampur, Chandigarh, NCR Delhi and other cities of the country where the members of the community are putting up after mass exodus from Valley. Pajnoo said his organization besides highlighting the demands of the displaced community will strive for its Honorable and dignified rehabilitation in its homeland in Valley as per the aspirations of the community. ` `We will also try to forge unity in the community to launch a decisive battle for our rights'' said Pushkar Nath Pandita, its senior leader. |
