| PWD contractors protest against non-payment of bills | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 21: Demanding early release of payments pending with the government, a large number of government contractors today held a protest demonstration at the Sadar Treasury Town Hall Jammu and raised slogans against the Finance Minister and coalition government for their failure in releasing the payments against the cheques given to them by their respective divisions of PWD Jammu. While addressing the media persons after their protest, Balvinder Singh General Secretary of PWD(R&B) Contractors Association said that contractors were issued cheques by different divisions of Jammu PWD, but till today the Payments of the contractors has not been released. "In some cases the cheques were issued to the contractors for the works which they have executed more than three years ago and to their surprise the contractors deposited the cheques in different treasuries of Jammu even over a month or a half month ago surprisingly the cheques yet have not been cleared, he lamented "Treasury Officer of different treasuries cleared the cheques issued on the self basis, by all the Executive Engineers, Singh said and added, "the Executive engineers encashed cheques amounting to crores of rupees on the self basis to be distributed for various works executed departmentally, in violation of the codal formalities laid down for the execution of works." All the contractors present their warned the government if their payments are not cleared within a week's times the contractors shall be forced to all the developmental works in the State. |
