14 states, 6 UTs have no Congress MP in Lok Sabha | Revival of Congress in J&K | | Rustam
JAMMU, May 24: India has once again proved that it's a truly democratic country where the people are the chief determinants. The just-held Lok Sabha elections, in fact, cleared all cobwebs of confusion and established that democracy in the country is so deep-rooted that even the powerful political figures and ruling parties cannot take the people for a ride and that they could be reduced to a nullity. Take, for example, the people's verdict as far as the performance of the Congress, which was a pan-India organization till the other day and that ruled the country for decades between 1947 and 1996, as also for ten long years from May 2004 to May 2014 with all powerful Sonia Gandhi leading the Congress and heading the UPA. The people across the country not only ensured the fall of the Congress-led UPA Government and rejected almost all the ministers in the Manmohan Singh Government, but also decimated the congress in more than half of the state and majority of Union Territories. It may appear ridiculous but it is a fact that the Congress failed to open its accounts in 14 state, including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Delhi, Jharkhand, Odisha, Rajasthan, Nagaland, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Sikkim, Seemandhra (Andhra Pradesh) and Uttrakhand. And in UP, it could win only 2 out of 80 seats, 3 in Bihar out of 40 seats, 4 out of 42 in West Bengal, 3 out of 14 in Assam, 3 out of 13 in Punjab, two out of 48 in Maharashtra and so on. Not just this, the Congress was also rejected outright by the people in six Union Territories, including Chandigarh, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Andaman & Nicobar Islands. In other words, 14 states and six Union territories will not have a single Congress MP in the Lok sabha. It's no wonder that observers have started terming the Congress not even a regional party. Many top Congress leaders, including JKPCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz and former J&K Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, on Friday held a meeting in Srinagar to discuss the causes leading to the debacle of their party in the state and find ways and means to stage a comeback. They must make efforts aimed at ensuring revival of the Congress party in the state, but it is difficult to say that the party would survive in the near future. The situation as it prevails today across the country indicates that the people are not prepared to forgive the Congress party. The reasons are obvious. |
