Early Times Report

Jammu, May 24: Media reports suggesting Union Ministry of Home Affairs has prepared a comprehensive package for Kashmiri Pandits have caused a lot of flutter both within the community as well as in political circles of the state, given its timing of bringing it to fore. The timing may be just coinciding with Narender Modi take over at centre or deliberate but the background in touching upon this highly sensitive and much complicated issue, at least in political terms has a different story to tell. If sources are to be believed, it is a well calculated and well timed move initiated by those at helm in the Home Ministry to settle their two pronged motives , much to personal benefits. There are many in the political corridors who question the sudden expediency behind making it look an issue of priority at a time when the Assembly elections are due in a matter of just few months, sources said adding that there is nothing like PM designate Narender Modi showing so much of keenness in implementing what is being portrayed as 'Roadmap' for Return of Kashmiri migrants nor is he expected to take up this task as a matter of utter priority.
There is however urgency on part of those at the helm in Home Ministry, albeit for different reasons. It is pertinent to mention that Anil Goswami who hails from the state attributes this covetted posting on account of connections and proximity of his family to Congress, particularly to a stalwart from the state who until fall of UPA government was a man capable of calling shots. On the contrary the family members of Goswami have lately been showing allegiance to BJP as it gradually rose to achieve power through massive electoral victory in LS polls. The family members were even seen participating in campaign of a high profiled BJP leader who contested from a constituency in Punjab. The dichotomy within the family in terms of political allegiance to two rival parties is in- explainable, say the sources adding that it is being given to understand that proximity to BJP now in power is only grind own axe for a couple of reasons.
Sources further said even though Narender Modi made this commitment in one of rallies during elections towards resettlement and rehabilitation of the KPs but bringing it to fore at a critical juncture when the assembly elections are few months away, would certainly be not a priority of the Central government, given its complicated nature and sensitivities involved in the entire issue of resettling the community back in Valley after over 25 years, no matter many in the community have been yearning so. It would only make the scene and situation difficult for any government ahead of elections in the state, sources said as being viewed generally in the political circles, adding that the blame of anything happening wrong would come to Modi as PM.
