Pakistani delegation inspects Kishtwar power project sites | Indus Water treaty taking toll of JK economy | | Asif Iqbal Naik JAMMU, May 24: The Indus Water Treaty based on water sharing agreement between the India and Pakistan signed in Karachi on September 19, 1960 by Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and President of Pakistan Ayoob Khan is taking heavy toll of Jammu and Kashmir economy as Pakistan continuously raised the objections on construction of power project on river Chenab due to which the state suffered massive losses on account of power generation as Pakistan continuously demanded reducing the height of dams like they did in case of 450 MW state owned Baglihar Power Project, but the same demand falls flat after Pakistan lost the case before world bank where they lodged the complaint against India. During the first leg of its three day visit to Kishtwar, the three member Pakistani delegation team led by Mirza Asif Beigh, Pakistan Water Commissioner with advisor Sheraz Jameel Mehmood and Advisor Amran Ahmed as its members along with Indian delegation comprises of A Vohra Indian Water Commissioner, P K Saxena Senior Joint Commissioner and Rajveer Singh Deputy Indian Water Commissioner as other members of the Indian delegation under tight security cover today visited the Drabshala area of Kishtwar District and inspected the project site of 850 MW Rattle Hydro Electrical Power project presently at initial stage of construction. The delegation also visited the Dam Site of the project beside also examine the proposed power house site. After finishing the examination of Rattle Power project, both delegation visited the site of 48 MW lower Kalni power project to be constructed on Kalni Nallah of Dunadi and carried out the similar exercise. Later in the evening all the members returned back to Kishtwar and tomorrow will visit the project site of 1000 MW Pakal-Dool Power Project proposed to be constructed on river Marru-Suddar. Some local Engineers from NHPC and official of District administration also accompanied them and facilitate the smooth visit. ADDC Avtar Singh Chib was appointed as coordinator of the tour by the Deputy Commissioner . 48 MW Lower Kalni didn't fall within the ambit of Indus Water Treaty (IWT) and also 1000 MW Pakal-Dool Power project. |
