Rebellion opens in NC | Omar's resignation sought | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 24: After the Party's rout in Parliamentary elections, party workers and activists have demanded resignation of Omar Abdullah and takeover of the party by Dr Farooq Abdullah. According to sources NC activists are totally annoyed over the style of functioning of the coalition Government led by Omar Abdullah and have accused the Congress for Party's dismal performance at the hustings. The Party workers alleged that the alliance with Congress proved costly for the party as people in entire country were against the performance of UPA Government. They said the anti Congress wave swept the NC in the State as well because the Party was in alliance with Congress, sources said, adding the Partymen have demanded immediate change of guard in the State and urged Dr Farooq Abdullah to take over as Chief Minister and lead the coming Assembly elections in the State. Sources said the rebellion in Party has reached to a point that few days back hundreds of NC activists assembled in front of Party office at Nawai Subuh building Srinagar and shouted slogans against the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The irate Partymen asked him to resign immediately to pave way for Dr Farooq Abdullah to take over as the Chief Minister. The protestors even did not relent after the senior party leaders and some Ministers pursued them not to go for open protest as this will send a wrong signal in the Party and opposition will also take its full advantage. However, the protestors continued raising slogans against Omar Abdullah demanding his immediate resignation. The action of Party workers has also offended Dr Abdullah as the open revolt by Partymen has sent a wrong signal among the masses as well as in the Party. Though senior Party leadership has not reacted over the growing rebellion in the Party, it has started damage control exercise by pursuing the rebels not to come publicly against the leadership. They partymen were asked to give ire to all their feelings in the Party meetings and remain tight-lipped outside as such action on their part will tarnish the image of the Party and further strengthen the opposition parties. Meanwhile, according to sources some senior NC leaders including former Minister Dr Mustafa Kamaal have favoured snapping of ties with Congress and fight the coming elections on its own by fielding candidates for all the Assembly seats in the State. Dr Kamaal according to sources has made it clear to Party leadership that Party suffered more due to its alliance with Congress and had it fought the elections on its own it would have performed much better in the State. |
