Maimed life: Young girl left crippled as in- laws burn her feet for 'dowry'

Rajouri, May 24: In an inhumane and brutal act, husband and other in-laws of a young woman in Rajouri allegedly threw acid on her feet for her refusal to bring dowry and giving birth to a girl child. Police have booked four persons including husband and in-laws for this brutality however the young girl is left crippled not only physically but also mentally with irremovable scars. Every girl dreams of good days at her in-laws home but for a young house wife all dreams got shattered as she was subjected to face not only domestic violence but also mental torture at her in-laws home. The tale of cruelty and inhumane acts ended today when the girl was rescued by girl was rescued by the father from her in-laws house after three months in the month of April this year and was taken to a hospital at Jammu for her treatment. Doctors at Jammu have advised to amputate her feet and fingers of hands damaged due to acid burn injuries in the absence of medical help for more than three months.
Tazim Akhter d/o Mohd Hussain was married to Abdul Razak of village Rehan Chaddan of Rajouri but all her imaginations were grounded as the new world seems to be cruel towards the girl. "Her in-laws used to torture her for more dowry, one of her relative alleged and added their (in-laws) cruelty further aggravated after she gave birth to a girl child."
Recalling her ordeal and agony, the victim even shivers today and said, "the things turned from bad to worse in the month of February when I gave birth to a female child.' "After that, as alleged by the victim, she was tortured by her husband and his parents to bring more dowry and even when she was pregnant she was subjected to severe torture. According to victim, on February 18, this year, they (her in-laws and husband) threw acid on her to burn her alive. "Somehow I managed to escape and the acid fell on my feet, she recalls adding, "while I was having a burning sensation on my feet I tried to scratch with my hands and that too got severe burn injuries." According to her relatives, the greed for dowry among in-laws didn't stop here and they kept her in illegal captivity and denied medical help so that she can ask for more dowry.
Facing torture for another two months Tazim somehow managed to communicate her ordeal to her parents and it was then when she was rescued by the parents in the month of April and by that time her burn injuries had caused severe damage to her feet and fingers of hands. The relatives of girl today has approached the Additional SP (ASP) Rajouri today and narrated her woeful tale seeking justice for the girl who is left maimed and crippled mentally and physically as well.
Parents of girl also alleged that after rescuing her they reported the matter to Police Post at Piri (under Rajouri Police Station) seeking action against the in-laws including husband but the police refused to lodge a complaint.
Taking serious note of police negligence and of the incident Superintendent of Police Rajouri (SP) Mubassar Latifi, directed the SHO Rajouri to register a case against the accused and ensure their custody within 24 hours. Following directions from SP Rajouri, the concerned police have registered a case under sections 307/342/109323/498A (FIR298/2014) Ranbir Panel Code (RPC) against her husband Abdul Razak, Shah Mohd , Shah Begam (father and mother -in-law) and Mohd Din uncle of the husband.
While interacting on the issue with the media persons SSP said that action will also be taken against those policemen who had refused to lodge the complaint of the victim if found guilty after departmental investigation in this regard.
