| Congress to go alone in LA polls: Vakil | | Hails Nehru family for supporting JK | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 24 : Sr. Vice President J&K Pradesh Congress Committee, Former Minister and Member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil today stated that the party (Congress) must contest Assembly elections on its own as pre-poll alliance has proved disastrous for both Congress and NC. He was addressing party workers at Tulsi Bagh, Srinagar. Vakil said Congress will face electorate on its own performance, pro-friendly policies and historical works which were started by Ghulam Nabi Azad during his régime. "People are interested in one party rule are are fed up with sentimental slogans. They are interested in the development and corruption free society," he said. The former minister said Congress will work hard to form the next government on its own to end uncertainty and corruption. "Surrendering Chief Minister's post to National Conference is one of the reasons for our defeat. The CM is indulging in mudslinging notwithstanding the fact that he is in chair because of Congress support," he said. Vakil hailed Nehru Family for `supporting Jammu Kashmir at every point of time, during natural calamities, political upheavals (20 Years of turmoil) and this is the main reason that our State never confronted problems of poverty or hunger at any stage since accession with India. He recalled AICC President Sonia Gandhi's affection for the people of this State and said that she preferred to stay at Uri on her birthday to share grief of people in 2005 earthquake. A resolution was passed in the convention expressing confidence in the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. The resolution reiterated that people of J&K had acceded with secular Indian which is only being symbolized by Nehru family. "Congress workers of this state will leave no stone unturned in strengthening the party and the hands of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and assured full support to the Nehru family. It was stated that Country is facing serious challenges ahead which is very difficult for BJP government to overcome as it needs experience, knowledge and skills to run this country which is multi religious, multilingual and multiracial," the resolution read. Sr. Congress Leaders Haji Mohammad Afzal Khan, Pandit Brij Nath Nehru, Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, Javed Ahmad Masoodi and Tariq Ahmad Mir also addressed the gathering. |
