| Thupstan likely to get Ministerial berth | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 26: BJP candidate from Ladakh Thupstan Chhewang is likely to be accommodated in the next Cabinet expansion. The party has decided to give Ministerial berth to Jatindra Singh considering the forthcoming Assembly election as BJP is eyeing for most of the seats . Thupstan was the front runner for the Ministerial berth. The party had virtually promised him and it was further strengthened by the fact that former BJP president Nitin Gadkari came to address the rally at the Leh after his victory. It was probably first time that a senior party leader revisited the place after winning the seat with a slender margin. According to sources he was assured of the Ministerial berth by Gadkari then. Even another senior leader of the party Tarun Vijay, who has very personal equation with Thupstan had also assured him about this. The BJP was clearly in mind of giving Ministerial berth to MP from Ladakh especially the Buddhist and also from Leh district. The party's thinking was on the lines that this region had not been given Ministerial berth especially the Leh as the region has been clubbed with the Kashmir. It was also based on another fact that he would have been the first Buddhist to get so. However, the things changed last minute. A strong section of the BJP prevailed on the Modi to allot ministry to Jatindra Singh. This section convinced Modi that party has made significant inroads in the entire Jammu region having 36 seats. "Modi was convinced that it would be politically wise to give Ministerial berth from the Jammu region which is the vote bank of the party and latter things can be changed," said a senior BJP leader. There is also feeling in the party since Jatindra Singh has been made Minister and Jugal Kishore left, who won with 2.5 lakh votes, how it would translate into the votes is to be seen. |
