SAARC leaders watch Modi's rise to power in New Delhi

NEW DELHI, May 26: Modi is in. Manmohan Singh is out without taking part in the recent battle of the ballot. Modi won from two constituencies where he was the BJP candidate.
The long wait was over when Narendra Modi was administered oath of office as India's 15th Prime Minister by President, Pranab Mukherjee, at a glittering ceremony in the lawns of the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi today. The oath taking ceremony had assumed a new colour when heads of SAARC nations were among the 5,000 guests present when Modi took the oath followed by Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley.
There were loud cheers when Modi, dressed in kurta pyjama and waist coat, walked to the podium to be a sworn in as the new Prime Minister. There were louder cheers when he completed the oath taking exercise. After him Rajnath Singh, BJP President, took the oath.
Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, was present and he was seated with Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, Montek Singh. If the BJP leadership showed the grace by inviting senior Congress leaders the Congress reciprocated. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Meera Kumar were present.
Top dignitaries including Nawaz Sharif, Hameed Karzai and heads of the Government from Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives were seated close to Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi.
Narendra Modi took the oath as Prime Minister along with some 45 Ministers, including key leaders Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj. A around 25 of these Ministers were given the Cabinet ranks and the remaining were given the rank of a Minister of State with Independent charge and Minister of State. Keeping to his commitment to 'Minimum Government, Maximum Governance' - Modi has decided upon an unprecedented and positive change in ministry formation. Various assembled ministries will be transformed into organic ministries for quicker pace of work and better coordination between departments. This is a step towards smart governance and will give the new Government added strength to fulfil aspirations of the people.
It was virtually all roads leading to the Rashtrapati Bhavan around which prolonged restriction on the movement of public and private transport had been imposed. Over 10,000 personnel from paramilitary forces, SPG, intelligence agencies had been deployed in and around the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The oath ceremony started at 6.10 P.M. when the glistening rays of the setting sun was a panoramic site.
Modi scored first diplomatic victory when Pakistan freed over 130 Indian fishermen who were languishing in Jails. Sri Lanka too displayed a similar gesture.
