SRINAGAR, May 26: Despite the drubbing in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections the National Conference leaders more so Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah are yet to come to terms and establish contact with the people.
Omar few days back had to face the anger of a group of top notch businessmen of Srinagar after failing to listen to them. The angered businessmen made it clear to CM that they don't have the time to wait and that Omar should consider his responsibilities as a public representative.
Sources told Early Times that a group of businessmen dropped in at the residence of Omar few days back hoping that he would give some solution to their grievance. But to their utter surprise the CM did not deem it fit to talk to them since he was busy with a telephonic conversation.
"The businessmen had gone to meet Omar so that the permission is granted to the expansion of a Masjid located on the bund in the backyard of always bubbling Residency Road. They had thought that since Omar is the CM he might order the concerned department not to create obstacles in the expansion of the Masjid," said sources.
Sources said as the businessmen dropped in they were asked to wait since Omar was coming to meet them. After some time Omar came in the room while he was busy on phone talking to some other person. "Omar came and sat on the edge of the sofa set while paying any heed to the guests who had come to meet him. For 12 minutes the Chief Minister talked on phone and the conversation was regarding purchase of a brand new vehicle. Omar was asking the other person to provide him the best in the market without caring for the price tag," said sources. Sources said that the businessmen felt 'pained' and 'humiliated' since the chief minister was not ready to talk to them even for one minute. The businessmen left the room after seeing the lackadaisical attitude of Omar who was not ready to listen to them even for a brief period.
"Omar so was busy on phone that he could not notice the departure of the businessmen. After finishing his telephonic conversation the Chief Minister enquired about the reasons for the leaving of businessmen. He asked his personal staff to get back the businessmen who denied the same saying that they don't have time to wait for hours together," said sources.
Later on the chief minister tried his best to seek the mediation of a top businessman who was not part of the group to chip and carry out the damage control exercise. However, the businessman could not motivate the group of businessmen who had gone to meet Omar. They said that they won't go to 'non-responsive' Chief Minister in future.
It would be in place to mention here that NC's Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Mehboob Beigh and Sharief-ud-din Shariq lost the elections for Srinagar-Budgam, Anantnag-Pulwama and Baramulla-Kupwara Lok Sabha seats respectively.
