| Awareness camp on Disaster Risk Reduction | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 26: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma today inaugurated an awareness camp on Disaster Risk Reduction organized by National Development Foundation (NDF) Jammu at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Akhnoor here today. Chief Functionary National Development Foundation, Rajiv Khajuria, Programme Manager NDF, Sulakshna Sharma, District Education Planning Officer, Principal of the School, faculty members, prominent citizens and a large number of students were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Sham Lal Sharma said that awareness regarding Ways of Disaster Risk Reduction is of immense importance in today's era when the incidence of manmade and natural disasters have substantially increased due to disturbance of ecological balance and climatic change. The Minister said that keeping in view the situation there was a need to educate masses about how to remain prepared to face any eventuality. He stressed upon the students to take keen interest in such educative camps apart from their studies so that the preparedness of disaster risk reduction percolate down to ground level. Sharma appreciated the efforts of NDF for developing specific sets of knowledge and practices to avoid or mitigate the effects of natural disasters. He said that the organization is closely involved in the conceptual shift in thinking away from post-disaster reaction to pre-disaster action. |
