Kathua, May 28: The demand for the formation of a separate 'hill district' in Billawer is gearing up and locals from Mahanpur, Basohali, Bani and Billawar have urged the state government to redress the poor plight of the hilly area of district Kathua on priority by conceding their long pending demand. While speaking to the media persons, Ramesh Chander, Akhtar Ali, Prem lal and many others reiterated their demand that it is the need of the hour to comprise the Billawar, Basoihali and Bani as a separate hill district in order to keep the upliftment and development of the hilly areas of the Kathua in real sense. "The state government has failed to redress long pending demand for the formation of separate district Hill and has put it into cold storage reasons better known to the authorities, they said, adding, "despite every politicians and successive governments in state have given assurances in this regard." They lamented that the upper reaches of the district Kathua are facing the apathy of government and administration, the population is forced to face the bundle of shortcomings of basic amenities like road, water, electricity, health and etc. Local leader Akhtar said the district status is a genuine right for Billawar-Bani and Basohali as the district administration is totally out of reach and accessible for the residents. The speakers urged the locals to remain united even to to organize for launching a massive movement for the district status. |
