| Farmers prefer orchards to paddy fields | | `It will lead to food scarcity' | | Shakeel A Khan,
Srinagar, May 28: With the government in slumber, the transformation of paddy fields etc into orchards is taking place at a tremendous pace. If it goes on like this, as the people are in a mood to change their profession, then it is for sure that the future generations will face food scarcity.
Not only this, the agricultural land is squeezing on account of constructions which are being raised on it. This way we are axing our feet. Also it is going to have long term consequences on the lives of the people, the living generations and on the coming ones as well.
"God has blessed the state of Jammu and Kashmir with the praiseworthy beauty, which the people world over acknowledge consensually. But we are ruining this beautiful place. It is like axing our own feet," said Safaqat Hussain from Srinagar.
He went on saying that it is the waywardness of the government which has failed to ensure the preservation of the agricultural land. According to him, it seems that the government isn't in a mood to pay attention to this burning issue.
In fact, it is the government which plays a key role in the destruction of the agricultural land. Be it the issue related to the widening of the roads or to raise the structure the government goes with the programme without any proper planning.
It is the fact that laying roads or constructing buildings requires land. Is it wise to use the agriculture land for this purpose? It is the faulty planning of the government which has resulted in the misuse of the agricultural land.
Some people at Budgam opined that "Permissions for raising structures are at sale in the concerned departments. The officers from these departments illegally manage hefty amounts by selling these permissions. How come they bother about the preservation of the agricultural land.
These people added that actually the government is run by the persons involved in land mafia. our ministers and bureaucrats are closely associated with this mafia. Rich lot of state which enjoys the favor of the people in power are also having a say in the whole process.
With each passing day our dependence on the imported goods increases which weakens our economy. Our condition is so poor that we are in no capacity to produce the simplest of the things like those of pulses, eggs, vegetables and milk.
During the developmental works in any part of the world other our state Jammu and Kashmir, it tried level best to save the agricultural land. Even the smallest of the trees are saved from being felled down. On the other hand the story is different in Jammu and Kashmir where every developmental work starts with cutting down of trees and by converting the fertile land into a barren one. |
