| E-functioning of departments malfunctioning | | PWD (R&B), PDD websites caught on wrong foot | | Avinash Azad JAMMU, May 28: The phrase "Just below the lantern lies the darkness" seems apt for techno savvy Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who is least bothered about e-functioning of the departments headed by him and his colleagues, as the website of Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department has shown wrong information, while PWD (R&B) website is not updated. Official website of PWD (R&B) is still showing Thaseen Mustafa as Chief Engineer R&B Jammu, who had transferred and posted as CEO, JKERA on October 23, 2013. "Not only Chief Engineer, even all officers including Superintending Engineers, Xens have transferred or promoted but the website is not updated", said contractor enlisted with PWD, Sheikh Abdul Hamid, who took over as new Chief Engineer R&B Jammu doesn't exist on department official website even after lapse of more than eight months. Interestingly, most of the Government departments have gone offline when it comes to maintenance of websites having the vital information about the Government functioning. Official website of another vital Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department www.jkpdd.gov.in is providing wrong information on it. The websites were launched about seven years back as part of the e-governance project to provide online data about various Government departments and the different development schemes launched in the state. It was to act as the data bank for the people proving information about the Government's functioning. "While our Chief Minister has created waves on twitter replying the queries of his followers and presenting his view point on various issues. The Government websites are totally shut, without any effort was being made to revive it", said a senior official preferring anonymity. "Most of the sites created by the Government are either not updated or are non-functional", the official said. "It shows that crores of rupees spent on using the internet connectivity and e-governance in the state for streamlining the administration functioning was just wastage of state exchequer and has not served the real purpose for which these were created", he added. Important to note here that 10 years back the state Government had taken a major initiative to implement E-Governance in all the departments, Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) and other organizations under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme. |
