J&K is not Omar's parental estate: RSS
5/28/2014 11:36:37 PM
Neha
JAMMU, May 28: The RSS has reacted very sharply to the provocative and divisive statement that J&K will go out of India and the people of the state will be further alienated from the national mainstream if Article 370 is repealed. Article 370 is a temporary provision and was adopted by the Indian Constituent Assembly way back in the late 1940s at the behest of Sheikh Abdullah, grandfather of Omar Abdullah. And the discredit for the incorporation of Article 370 in the Indian Constitution goes to Jawaharlal Nehru, who, like the Sheikh and similar other Kashmiri leaders, considered J&K not an integral part of India to the same extent as other states of the Union and whose whole approach towards Kashmir was patently communal. In fact, both Nehru and the Sheikh conspired against the country by incorporating Article 370 in the Constitution to promote communalism and accord a dangerous legitimacy to the politics of autonomy/separatism.
Indeed, what Omar Abdullah said about Article 370 was unwarranted. Article 370 is like other Articles of the Indian Constitution and can be amended or repealed by the Government of India anytime subject to the condition that it has the required numbers in the Parliament. The RSS was right when it reiterated that there must be a detailed discussion on Article 370 and snubbed Omar Abdullah saying J&K is "not his parental estate". J&K is and shall always remain part of India and no power on earth can drive it away from it was the upshot of the whole argument the RSS advanced against the provocative reactions of Omar Abdullah whose party suffered an ignominious defeat in the just-held Lok Sabha elections. The people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh have appreciated the intervention of the RSS in the ongoing fierce debate on Article 370 with many taking it to mean that the RSS meant business and it is seriously committed to creating an environment conducive for the abrogation of Article 370 that is nothing but a deadly poison and that has created a wide gulf between J&K and New Delhi.
