Ailing education system irks Kupwara people
5/28/2014 11:04:48 PM
Syed Tahir Bukhari

KUPWARA, May 28: scores of people staged protest in Khurhama area of Lolab valley in north Kashmir's Kupwara district against the ailing education system. Whereas teachers of Zone Sogam wants to know where their PRAN amount actually goes.
Protesters alleged that in some schools of Lolab valley, there are more teachers than students while in some only one teacher manages the affairs.
Locals of Kurhama Lolab, who were protesting said that there are only two teachers in government middle school located in the area who are unable to do justice with the 400 students. The protesters said that they brought the matter into the notice of higher ups but nothing was done in this regard.
"The higher ups in education department are in deep slumber and they don't know that what is going on the ground. At Takia Kurhama, one kilometer away from the middle school there are two teachers for only four students studying in primary school there, the father of a student Manzoor Ahmad said.
Meanwhile teacher of zone Sogam in Lolab area alleges that Five months Permanent Retirement Account Number (PRAN) amount is missing. When we approached worthy ZEO and treasury officer they paid deaf ear towards our genuine problem. Teacher wishing not to be named said, "Basically these officers are shielding their ministerial staff. When we tried to get the records of these, unfortunately there is no maintenance of records in the department. The PRAN has been deducted but not credited into their accounts and was bypassed for getting interests"
Another teacher said, "Whereas the extra deduction has been made by their salaries and as such there is no authority who could readdress our problems"
He said, "Unfortunately PRAN amount is missing and has not been credited to the same account and rest of the amount is bypassed. The teachers whose amount is missing are Mohammad Ashraf, Fayaz Ahmad Gojree, Aijaz Ahmad Wani, Syed Shabir, Mohammad Iqbal, Bashir Ahmad Shah, and Rayees Ahmad Bhat. If there is accountability in education department than let them come to clean on these genuine issues. We want to know where actually it goes.
It is pertinent to mention here that under the new pension system (NPS), Central Record Keeping Agency (CRA) was required to maintain employee's accounts and issue a unique Permanent Retirement Account Number (PRAN) to each subscriber.
In this system, deductions towards New Pension Scheme (NPS) were made from their salaries on monthly basis and equal amount of contribution would be made by the Government. The accumulated amount will be reflected in his/her Permanent Retirement Account while he/she is working and shall use the accumulations at retirement to procure a pension for the rest of his/her life.
