| "BJP polarizing state for winning Assembly elections" | | | Rustam JAMMU, May 28: It was expected that the comprehensive defeat the Congress suffered across the country, including Jammu and Kashmir, would make its leadership sit up to examine the circumstances leading to its very poor performance, but it has not happened. On the contrary, it has thought it fit to pursue the same old "secular" line to remain in some limelight or in the news. How else should one interpret the Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi's today statement that the BJP has raked up the issue of Article 370 to politicize it and polarize the society in Jammu and Kashmir? His statement that the BJP raked up the issue of Article 370 to politicize it and polarize the society in Jammu and Kashmir clearly suggests that Article 370, if made an issue in the manner it was made a day ago, would benefit the BJP in the state or help it win the assembly elections. In other words, raking up of the issue of Article 370 would go a long way in ensuring the victory of the BJP in the coming Assembly elections. But more than that, the statement of the Congress national spokesperson proves beyond a shadow of doubt that the bulk of the population in Jammu and Kashmir is against Article 370 and for the state's full integration with India. It is a fact that the people of Jammu province, barring a few disgruntled elements here and there, are against Article 370. It is also a fact that the attitude of the bulk of population in Ladakh towards Article 370 is no different. Similarly, the entire community of internally displaced Kashmiri Hindus is rabidly opposed to this Article. It is also too well known that the BSP, the Scheduled castes and Other backward Classes are also against Article 370 and that all of them want this Article to go lock, stock and barrel. Not just this, there are groups in the Majority community who also say that "we are not against Article 370 but Article 370 is against us". As for the minority community of Sikh, its leadership has consistently maintained that it couldn't get the minority community status because the state enjoys a separate status. But it extremely unlikely that the Congress would learn lessons from its defeat and refashion its whole approach towards Article 370. Since it continues to play the so-called secular card, it will surely suffer another massive defeat in Jammu and Kashmir. |
