Srinagar, May28, The SKIMS Medical College Bemina which is under the administrative control of the Director SKIMS Soura sans the basic facilities of health care and craves for up gradation of infrastructure. The college is also facing a de-recognition threat from the Medical Council of India for want of infrastructural development and administrative inertia. Sources told Early Times on Wednesday that the college was in shambles as there was no college council, no interdepartmental meetings, no statistical meetings, no grand rounds, no clinico-pathological meetings and no periodic research reviews was being carried out.The students of the college told Early Times that they have to go to SKIMS Soura even for sanctioning leave application or signing a certificate. "It is a pity that while other colleges are being upgraded and our college has gets deteriorated day by day in absence of fulltime principal," they alleged. The students said the college is being run on remote control from SKIMS Soura and there is no post of principal in place.They said the students, medical and para-medical staff of the college have been agitating on the issues since long but "callousness of authorities" in running the college affairs seems to have no end. "The college can be de-recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) for not fulfilling the requisite guidelines wherein it is compulsory for a medical college to have Post Graduate teachers and proper infrastructure in place with independent administrative and financial control," they said. "If our college is de-recognized, the career of hundreds of students will be jeopardised.""This college needs a full time principal to deliver better rather than having a remote control by the SKIMS Director. It will help cater the problems of students and address the ground problems reality in the undergraduate institution," they said. Students said that many other colleges established around the same time, when SKIMS. Meanwhile a senior faculty member on the conditions of not to be named said the hospital is yet to establish staff reading room, daftaries, book binders, microfilm reading room, video room, and journal room as it doesn't have principal.
"The departments are not able to get new equipment, advanced diagnostic tools for want of space," they added. He said the college has about 50 Acres of land but the up-gradation of infrastructure has not been taken in hand despite the fact that a project report for up-gradation of the SKIMS Medical College was submitted to the SKIMS Governing Body in its XXXII meeting held on 25 May 2009. He said the Governing Body approved the project report in toto for expansion of the teaching & patient care facilities as per norms and guidelines prescribed by the Medical Council of India along with a (50) bedded Trauma Centre.
However, barring some face lifting gestures nothing concrete has been done so for. |
