BARAMULLA, June 2: The Roads and Buildings Department (R&B) has failed to provide better and proper maintenance of roads here in Tehsil Kreeri of North Kashmir's Baramulla district. According to sources, "central and state government is providing funds in crores to the Roads and Building Department for the maintenance purpose, the department has failed to maintain the poor conditions of roads in Tehsil Kreeri and other adjoining areas which connect the place with Baramulla district. Ghulam Mohammad Bhat resident of Kreeri said, "Dilapidated condition of Choora- Kreeri road has put lives of commuters at risk. The 8-10 kilometer stretch passing through Dungdara, Authoora, Dumbpora, Saloosa, Hail, and Thindma is dotted with potholes. At many places, the road is without base making it vulnerable to accidents" "The road is an alternative route to world famous ski-resort Babareshi-Gulmarg via Khaipora -Kreeri. The condition of these roads is so bad that it takes one hour by Tata Sumo and other light vehicles to reach Kreeri to Baramulla and other places respectively," Bhat said. "Only road garnishing is being carried out since 2012 so authority has started garnishing the roads without curing the actual problem, a local Nazir Ahmad said. Sijad Ahmad, a sumo driver from Choora said, road from Choora, Authoora, Saloosa and Thindma presents the picture of roads itself, we appealed to the authorities many times but all in vein. "At the time of election these politicians do anything for their own purposes "now you see the assembly elections are forthcoming and how can they come and ask votes from us when they never pay attention to our problems. We don't have proper road facility," he added. A group of students from Kreeri said that, "Due to dilapidated condition of the road, we always reach school and college in late hours". "Now it is not only the problem of roads we don't have proper transport facility, it would be better for all if the bus service would be started so that there will be no overloading in matadors and no threat of accidents said Nargist 2nd year student of Government Women's Degree College Baramulla. The locals said while most of the roads were repaired in Baramulla District and, but this route has not been repaired for over a decade. "This is sheer injustice with us," said Mohd Shaban of Saloosa. The locals appealed the authorities to undertake immediate repairs of the road. |
