Omar Govt soft towards seditionists
'Quit Kashmir Movement'
6/3/2014 12:05:27 AM

JAMMU, June 2: More than 48 hours have lapsed since the self-styled chairman of the irrelevant JKLF Yasin Malik threatened "Quit Kashmir Movement", but the NC-Congress coalition Government has not initiated legal proceedings against the separatist, who from a pauper has turned multi-millionaire over the period. It was on Saturday that the seditionist Malik charged New Delhi with triggering a debate on Article 370 to "change the discourse of freedom movement in Kashmir" and declared that he would soon launch "Quit Kashmir Movement to defeat these nefarious designs". "The clamour for abrogation of Article 370 triggered by a Minister in Modi Government has led to a political upheaval. It is an attempt to shift focus on state-centre relationship…To foil these nefarious designs, we have decided to launch Quit Kashmir Movement on the pattern of Safr-e-Azadi (journey to freedom) and signature campaign and Jail Bharo Andolan. We will infuse new life into the movement at grassroots level," he, inter-alia, said at a press conference at Srinagar. In 2007, Malik and his party launched campaign called "safr-e-azadi" to create an atmosphere for anti-Indian agitation among Kashmiri Muslims. The seditious movement last for one year and the JKLF activists during this period visited nearly 3500 towns and villages in the Valley. All this happened under the nose of the Ghulam Nabi Azad-led coalition Government. Kuldip Nayar and other supporters of Kashmiri Muslim sub-nationalism had participated in the rabidly anti-India movement.
What Malik said was an open revolt against India. It should have made the Omar Abdullah-led NC-Congress coalition Government swung into action against Malik so that a moral effect could be produced on time and no one dares in the future to raise even a little finger. But that was not to be. On the other hand, it adopted a very soft attitude towards Malik, thus according a covert official legitimacy to his anti-India's evil designs. But it was not the first occasion when Omar Abdullah administration acted in such an irresponsible manner. It has been doing so ever since its inception. In fact, Omar Abdullah himself has on several occasions spoken the language of Kashmiri separatists and challenged the Indian presence in Kashmir and he did so repeatedly on the floor of the Assembly and outside. Only on May 27, 2014, he declared that the state will not be part of India if Article 370 was abolished. So, there is hardly any difference between Malik and Omar. In fact, the crime committed by Omar Abdullah was more heinous. Now that the Omar Abdullah Government, which enjoys the full backing of the Sonia Congress, has failed to act against Malik, it is time for Governor N N Vohra to discharge his constitutional obligations towards the nation by invoking the required section of the State Constitution so that all the fissiparous tendencies are crushed. There is no doubt that the constitutional machinery in the state has broken down and it is the duty of the Governor to invoke section 92 to bring the state under his direct rule. Indeed, it is time for him to act and act fast. His role in the state so far has been far from satisfactory.
