| HC seeks status report about charge sheet | | Gift taking doctors in trouble | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 2: Jammu and Kashmir High Court has asked Government to file status report about charge sheet against those doctors who have been named in Public Interest Litigation, seeking action against medicos indulging in malpractices of taking gifts and freebies from medical companies for prescribing their medicine. The directions were passed by a division bench of the court comprising Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar after senior AAG J A Kawoosa for Health and Medical Education Department submitted that a charge-sheet against the doctors will be filed within two weeks. In the statement of facts, the Government has said that a prima facie case is made out against doctors named in the PIL, including Firdous Ahmad Vaid (Medical Officer Yaripora), Fayaz Ahmad Peerzada (incharge CMO Budgam), Abdul Ahad Wani (Consultant medicine, Baramulla) and Javaid Ahmad Zargar (Medical Officer Chadoora). Secretary Health and Medical Education Department has also issued circular (No.14-HME of 2014) whereby doctors practicing in the field of medicine, have been prohibited from receiving freebies and gifts from the pharmaceutical companies. Likewise pharmaceutical companies have been asked not to make any arrangements for tours of doctors within or outside the country. The PIL filed by three persons from Srinagar through advocate Qazi Ayaz demand action against doctors who are involved in the commission and omission of offenses involving receiving of kickbacks and freebies to prescribe the medicine. The petitioners also demand ascertaining assets of such doctors and cancellation of their licenses. |
