| Kashmir is nobody's parental estate | | Bigot Geelani nobody to decide fate of refugees from WP | | Neha
JAMMU, June 13: Jammu & Kashmir is one of the 29 states of the Union. It is not the parental estate of Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Nor is it the personal fiefdom of any other Kashmiri. Jammu & Kashmir is legitimately Indian. The people of Jammu & Kashmir have all rights all over India as the rest of the Indians have all rights in this state. It is disgusting that we have bigots like Geelani in Kashmir who are being allowed by the law and order authorities and the executive to make irresponsible statements and outrage the sensitivities of the minorities. Their place should have been behind bars, but they are roaming about freely and preaching not only anti-minority views but also preaching secessionism. The irresponsible and questionable regime in the state is responsible for the rise of such rouges and regressive elements. It was on June 9 that the Presidential Address to the joint session of the Parliament talked about the return of Kashmiri Hindus to the Valley. Earlier, a report appeared that suggested that the BJP government at the Centre was contemplating a scheme aimed at redressing the grievances of refugees from West Pakistan (all non-Muslims and mostly Dalits) and Pakistan-occupied-Jammu & Kashmir. The report said that the Union Government was working out a scheme under which the refugees from West Pakistan would get domicile certificates in Jammu & Kashmir and refugees from PoJK get compensation for the properties they left behind in 1947. Refugees from West Pakistan also migrated to Jammu province in 1947 and the cause was the communal partition of India. The Presidential Address and the report on refugees from West Pakistan and PoJK rattled many in the Valley and it was Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani who expressed highly outrageous views on the issues. He behaved in a fashion as if he was the chief determinant and owner of the state. Nothing would move in the state unless he gives his consent was the detestable refrain of what he shamelessly said. He said: "We outrightly reject the plan of the Government to provide domicile certificates to Pakistani refugees (refugees from West Pakistan) settled in Jammu region. It is a conspiracy to change the demographic character of the state and we will organise public opinion against the move". Regarding the return of Kashmiri Hindus, he said: "Kashmiri Pandits are part and parcel of Kashmiri society and are our brethren. We will welcome their return to their homeland, but would oppose any attempt aimed at settling the pandits in separate zones and villages". He also described the idea of separate zones as a conspiracy hatched by New Delhi. "It is a deep-rooted conspiracy to create separate zones for the community. The only purpose behind this is to divide our society," he said, and added that he would launch an "agitation if the Centre carved out separate zones for Kashmiri Migrant Pandits in the Valley". Who is this Geelani to say what he said? Enough is enough. The Omar government must discharge its obligations towards the state and bringing to justice fanatics and anti-nationals like Geelani and come forward to strengthen the hands of New Delhi so that it mitigate the hardships of the refugees. |
