Syed Tahir Bukhari

BARAMULLA, June 18: Scores of villages still lives in Dark Age as PDD has failed to install electric poles even as these areas pays electricity bills unexpectedly and lacks overall development in north Kashmir's Baramulla district.
According to sources, the electric wire system at Kandi, Harashnar, Nilsar, Masjid Angan, Rafiabad, and Uri, is connected to willows and other trees.
The village has remained the victim of official apathy in terms of development. The area has not seen much development in all respects.
We are demanding poles from the PDD since last five years but of no use.
According to Mohammad Ashraf Khan of Kandi, "The surroundings of our village are same as it was three decades ago. The area was never given preference in power corridors," we are not existing anywhere on the developmental pages we are disappointed with the indifferent behavior of the government towards our villages.
"We feel ashamed for electing this collation government who couldn't win hearts of the common masses here, how they can come to us tomorrow for votes, now these politicians should know that the time has gone when we were fools. Shabir Ahmad a local, said. Shabir alleges that, "Collation government has lost the ground here in north Kashmir, because of their unexpected negligent behavior towards we people. When our genuine grievances were not fulfilled since long time how it is possible to casts our votes in their favor. Expressing their dismay with the government offices particularly Power Development Department (PDD) in north Kashmir's Baramulla district.
Senior citizens of Uri spoke to early times over the phone that at a time when the villagers don't receive hassle free electricity, people belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL) category. They still pay their dues at the cost of Rs370 per month.
"We approached the Power department many times in past to resolve their problems, but no they are least bothered to resolve it. These people (BPL) have no source of income but are forced to clear the electricity dues, for which they never get any electricity,"
Ironically, bills are dropped to the households who don't have an agreement with PDD. Especially Balkote Uri and other adjoining places are without electric poles and high tension (HT) and low tension (LT) lines are also damaged, but the authorities are unmoved. The area is deprived of all basic amenities
"Even elections are also approaching. Now people have lost their faith over the system and government is responsible for that. How will these political leaders approach people for their votes in future, the work and maintenance of these government departments who are supposed to provide basic facility to these left out villages is a big question, Shafi Khantana said.
