NC CWC meet looks like a halqa meeting
Omar discusses PDP more than NC

Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, June 18: The National Conference Central Working Committee held a marathon meeting that lasted nine hours today. The meeting chaired by the working president, Omar Abdullah, however, did not achieve the desired objective.
It looked like a Halqa meeting where Mufti and PDP were extensively discussed.
Seasoned parties do not discuss outsiders in the top level meetings.
It is a forum to frame strategies. Anyway, the NC did what it is best at-criticizing the opponents and mudslinging.
Omar said Mufti Sayeed's `healing touch' was a big hoax. It appeared as if Omar was addressing a public meeting. He, perhaps had forgotten that the high level meeting should have discussed NC instead of the PDP and his leader.
Omar said that National Conference had never and will never compromise on its political ideology and agenda. This is a brazen lie. History is witness to the fact that the NC changed its ideology very often. In 1946 it launched the Quit Kashmir Movement but apologized for the same in 1947. A written apology was tendered to the Maharaja Hari Singh. The apology note finds a place in Sardar Patel's papers.
In 1947 NC supported accession to India but in 1953 opposed it and sought independence. In early 70s Sheikh Abdullah called for boycott of Congress and called them `worms of the gutter; but in 1975 assumed office of the Chief Minister with their support. Dr Farooq hated Congress in 1983 but forged an alliance with Rajiv Gandhi in 1986. He even accepted Jagmohan as his Guru.
Omar Abdullah said he happens to be the only Chief Minister who spoke strongly and fearlessly about the resolution of the Kashmir Issue on the floor of the State Legislative Assembly and also in front of the former Prime Minister of India during his visit to the State. Omar Abdullah said that he had repeatedly reiterated that Kashmir Issue was a political problem that merited a political solution and no amount of economic packages could substitute the need for a political settlement. Omar Abdullah also highlighted the fact that he openly and on-record spoke about the difference between merger and accession in the Legislative Assembly - something that Mufti Mohammad Sayeed would never have dared to do. Yes, Omar did all this and much more but he put political activists behind the bars who also nurture same ideas.
The meeting praised Omar for what he never did during the past six years. The meeting talked about peace and development. Where is peace and where is development? Why was NC rejected by the people in the just concluded Lok Sabha elections?
The meeting passed several resolutions. Amnesty to stone-pelters was also sought. The members, perhaps did not know that the union Home Ministry was not happy over the proposed amnesty package to stone pelters and the State Government headed by Omar had been told to behave and forget about the package.
