| BJP's silence in Assembly emboldened NC-Cong into corrupt practices | | 'Nexus' in backdoor appointments, transfers, postings | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 18: Engaged in worst ever political bickering for the last two days, even as both BJP and National Conference are coming out with their set of clarifications, the development has left indelible question mark on the conduct of political parties in being friends while giving and taking favours and bitter foes when interests clash. Latest rumblings by none other than the Chief Minister has exposed this 'nexus' and revealed behind the scene deals but more than that the big question remains why BJP MLAs allowed corrupt practices to continue at the hands of ever corrupt coalition of Congress and NC Government. There are ample instances to substantiate that their strategy of silence in the Assembly only emboldened NC-Congress Government's practices on continuance of backdoor appointments and other corrupt practices. When the issues of Backdoor appointments in the Legislative Assembly rocked the House during budget session during the last two successive years, BJP initially joined the chorus of opposition in lashing out at Government for not just employing people through backdoor but also in highlighting nepotism and favoritism also reining supreme in making such appointments. While there was a tacit understanding between the coalition partners in making backdoor appointments, BJP MLAs also became a part of this nexus in no time. Sources said when the issue was raked up to hilt in the J&K Assembly last year, some BJP MLAs also went to the chamber of then Speaker and allegedly sought their 'share' in the appointments which were made while throwing all norms and rules to wind at the instance of powerful lobbies in NC and Congress. Sources said Ashok Khajuria whose name is at the top in slur throwing game between the two parties, also managed to get entry of one of the close relative in the Assembly. Pertinently the BJP at that time was divided in two groups with four on one side and 7 expelled members on the other side. While the issue of backdoor appointments continued to resonate in the House, BJP suddenly maintained a studied silence which though conspicuous was questioned by none. It was BJPs silence which emboldened the coalition to go on with its irregularities on other fronts like postings and transfers in Education Department, Health Department, PHE department and many more areas where BJP also allegedly managed some benefits while cozying up with power corridors. Sources said it was at the instance of a couple of BJP leaders that all MLAs were asked not to raise voice over the issue of backdoor appointments or other such irregularities by the coalition Government. BJP's conduct also became questionable when one of the expelled party members Baldev Raj raked up the issue pertaining to one of the senior Ministers in Congress with some stunning allegations. While the MLA even dared to present proof to substantiate his allegations, rest of the MLAs from the party stood silent and did not support him while he tried to stir up a huge controversy which if supported by the entire BJP group would have gone into party's favour. Sources said there was again a reason for this silent strategy. BJP leaders both inside and outside the House had managed their set of benefits in having transfers, postings of their kin at choicest places. Like BJP, other Jammu based party, Panthers Party MLAs too managed such benefits from the Government from time to time and this became evident when the MLAs of this party failed to take on coalition partners in the appointments scams. It was in a way BJP which was responsible for encouraging the Government by not exposing them at right time when ample opportunities came in the last couple of years. |
