| Forget governance, meet delegations for votes | | Election ghost haunts politicians | | Shakeel A Khan
SRINAGAR, Aug 12: It appears that the ghost of elections has been haunting the people in power as their only business these days is to meet the delegations of the people instead of providing good governance to the people. The offices of the ministers are abuzz with the election related activities and the commoners watch all these things happening helplessly. The only achievement of the government this year has been the decoration of the selected walls around the secretariat in the summer capital. The government machinery is seen active in and around the secretariat, leaving the commoners to bite the dust who have been completely neglected by the people in the corridors of power. "The incessant rains and the untimely heavy snowfall in the spring season this year devastated everything. It severely affected the already existing poor road connectivity. But the concerned authorities paid no attention this problem. With the winter about to onset in the Valley, the chances of the improvement in the road connectivity have faded away," said some shopkeepers at Shalteng, while giving vent to their feelings. As per these shopkeepers, by painting and decorating walls, the government is trying to give the impression that it is serious in addressing the problems as faced by the people of the valley. The commoners of the state haven't been given the fair deal which they deserved, these shopkeepers went on saying. One of the shopkeepers at Srinagar expressed his views by saying that the decoration and the repairments of the selective roads in Srinagar has been made to facilitate the smooth movement of the ministers and the bureaucrats, so that they don't get trapped in the traffic jams since move offices are functioning in the Summer capital. People of the valley generally believe that the government has no time to pay to the miseries of the people which the incessant rains and the untimely snowfall brought to them. The shabby condition of the roads is a blot on the face of the valley and the government has done nothing to remove this blot. The people of the valley believe that the ruling coalition government lead by the National Conference thinks that it may not be able to retain the power, so why to bother about the sufferings of the commoners. The people in power, as the commoners believe, have come to know about their strength in the recently concluded elections and their exercises are as means of time pass. |
