| Omar snubs Manmohan Singh, bemoans inauguration of projects by PM Modi | | Big complaint' | | Rustam JAMMU, Aug 12: NC working president and J&K CM Omar Abdullah has, it seems, lost his way. He is making statements which even a greenhorn in politics would avoid to avoid embarrassment and keep doors open for patch up or to join hands in case it is needed. In politics, nobody is a permanent enemy and nobody a permanent friend. Equations change as the situation changes. But Omar Abdullah is one leader who would not appreciate these realities and adopt an approach that would only humiliate him and lower his position in the eyes of the people. Yesterday, Omar Abdullah, who had served in the BJP-led NDA for a couple of years as MoS, expressed his unhappiness over former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's failure to inaugurate various projects in the state and bemoaned the inauguration of the same by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "It will be my very big complaint with UPA-II that all these (development) projects were completed during its tenure but were handed over as gift to (Modi) for inauguration," Omar told reporters on the sidelines of a function in Srinagar. "I will never be able to understand why they were so careless about the completed projects and did not inaugurate these. His regret was that Manmohan Singh took personal interest in these projects and ensured their funding and completion under the Prime Minister's Reconstruction Plan for the state but his name is not going to be associated with inauguration of these projects. If he had inaugurated these projects, I would have been happier," he also said. He didn't stop just there. He further said: "He (Prime Minister Manmohan Singh) could not find time to inaugurate these projects. Katra rail link was completed more than a year ago, we have been using electricity of Uri II power project for more than a year now and Nimo-Bazgo and Chutak projects were completed a year ago. It has been more than six months we got permission for Srinagar-Leh transmission". NC leader and executive head of the state not only took on former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, but also declared that he would never shake hands with the BP. Omar Abdullah made these irresponsible and avoidable remarks a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the first power transmission line from Leh to Kargil and Kargil to Srinagar. He inaugurated 44 MW Chutak hydro-electric project in Kargil district and the 45 MW Nimoo Bazgo project in Leh today with great pomp and show, with people in thousands applauding the Prime Minister and welcoming his maiden visit to the trans-Himalayan Ladakh after assuming the highest executive office in the country. Prime Minister Modi was given a rousing reception both at Leh and Kargil and repeatedly shouted slogans "Modi, Modi, Modi". Paradoxically, he shared the dais with PM Modi at both the places as per protocol and in the process gave an opportunity to his critics to question his political acumen and term him as an immature politician. He knew it that he had to be at the venues of events as Chief Minister of the state and still he made certain indecent and uncalled for statements that created for him an awkward situation. He must have felt very bad when the people shouted slogans hailing PM Modi while he was addressing the gathering at Kargil. He himself was responsible for the situation he landed himself in. |
