| Another rifle snatching incident at Tral | | Service rifle of SOG man stolen | | Bashir Assad
Srinagar, Aug12: In yet another incident of weapon snatching, unidentified persons decamped with a service rifle of a Special Operation Group (SOG) man from his family quarter at Tral area in south Kashmir's Pulwama district last evening. It merits a mention here that on July 21, a service rifle of a policeman Fayaz Ahmad of 71 IR 2nd battalion who was posted at a shrine in Awantipora had gone missing. Similarly on August 1, Militants decamped with the service rifle of a policeman guarding the house of a sessions judge Sujat Ali Khan at Qamarabad in Srinagar. Prior to this incident, Firdous Ahmad Baba, a constable with the Indian Reserve Police, who was posted at the main market in the North Kashmir town was attacked by a group of militants with an axe. The militants managed to flee with the policeman's INSAS rifle. Pertinently last year unknown persons had stolen two AK-47 rifles from the banker of security guards who were guarding the house of a NC leader in Shopian town in South Kashmir. Police sources today said Latif Ahmad Gojri who is working with SOG Tral as follower reported his senior officers that his rifle AK-47 along with a pouch and few magazines had gone missing from his residence. "The family quarter of the policeman is just 100 meters away from SOG camp in the area". They said that the SOG man who was appointed as SPO in 2000 and was recently converted into follower in the department was immediately placed under suspension. Sources said that the policeman has detained eight persons for questioning. "A case has been registered in this regard and the departmental inquiry has also been initiated. The facts of the incident would be revealed during the course of investigations," the official said. |
