Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 12: Keeping in view of Independence Day, though the security agencies have put security blanket yet police in a bid to further enhance the security grid has come up with a new initiative to register FIR against protest creating road blockades which according to agencies may give an advantage to anti-social elements and miscreants to disturb peace.
"It become common practice for the protestors to block the road for minor issues", said a police official adding that it causes suffering to the common people in general who have no fault.
He further said that so many time patients and pregnant women struck in road blockades resulting severe consequences.
According to police sources, three FIRs one in Kanachack and two in Gandhi Nagar Police station, have been registered against protestors.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jammu Uttam Chand said that it is clear cut violation of law and anybody violate it would be booked under relevant sections of law.
"In last week, we have registered three FIRs in different police stations in this regard", said SSP Jammu Uttam Chand adding that this has reduced the incidents of road blockade.
Deputy Commissioner (DC), Jammu Ajit Kumar Sahu while talking to Early Times said "It is provision in Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) that illegal and intentional road blockade is violation of law".
Sahu further said that protestors think that road blockade is a legal way of protest but it is cognizable offence and can seek FIR.
"There are so many legal ways of protest, protestors can seek permission for their genuine demands", added Sahu.
