| Conversion of Agriculture land: DB asks 5 DCs to file reply or appear in person | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 12 : A Division Bench of Jammu and Kashmir High Court today granted two more weeks to five deputy Commissioners for filing affidavits regarding its directions to ensure that there was no conversion of agriculture land in the areas of their jurisdiction. Hearing a Public Interest Litigation, the division bench also asked Commissioner Secretaries of Revenue and Housing and Urban Development Department to file affidavits within the same time regarding accommodating growing population in Srinagar city in wake of limited area allotted under master plan for construction purposes. As the hearing started, Advocate General submitted that some Deputy Commissioners have been transferred and new officers have joined at respective places in the recent past. He submits that two weeks further time be granted to file affidavits of remaining Deputy Commissioners of Budgam, Kulgam, Anantnag, Kathua and Kishtwar. "At request affidavits within two weeks. In default, concerned deputy Commissioners to appear in person on next date of hearing," the court said. "Observations made in order dated 12-12-2012 and 1-4-2013 has not evoked any response till date from respondent state. Commissioner Secretaries Revenue and Housing and Urban Development Department to file affidavits," the court and listed the PIL for further consideration in the week commencing from August 25. In its order on 12-12-2012 and 1-4-2013, the court had directed that the official respondents shall explore the possibility of bringing out some plan in adjoining areas of Srinagar to accommodate the demand of residential place. |
