| Soibugh most neglected part of distt Budgam | | | Shakeel A Khan
BUDGAM, Aug 18: The residents of Soibugh area of Budgam district are up in the arms against the government as despite being a centrally located village, it has not got any facelift. Hardly 14 km from Lal Chowk, Srinagar, this place lacks development on all fronts. Soibugh is the most neglected part of the Budgam constituency represented by none other than NC's Aga Syed Ruhullah. The residents of the area say that the MLA did nothing to bring this area, which lacks potable water facility and other basic amenities, under the developmental schemes. Abdul Gani of Soibugh said that the irony is that the concerned MLA couldn't get tehsil status for the Soibugh area despite the fact that it was the biggest village of the district with a huge catchment area. As per these people the government granted tehsil status to Narbal which was less deserving as compared to Soibugh. "Our area hasn't witnessed any development over the years as the concerned MLA has failed to represent the aspirations of the area. It is a known fact that the people of the area have no access to the drinking water. The women of the area walk a long distance to fetch some liters of potable water," Saiod Khazir Mohammad, another Soibugh resident, said. Khazir went on saying that the only development that area has witnessed over the years is that the area has invited a huge rush of the tippers because of the brick kilns. These tippers have destroyed the already existing poor road connectivity and their unchecked movement leads to frequent traffic snarls and also on account of this the dust continues to blow all the time leading to environmental problems. Locals say there are many vital link roads which connect the area with the Narbal-Gulmarg road but these have become the victims of the official apathy. These roads are so damaged that the transporters hesitate to ply on them. There isn't any drainage system in the area which has adversely affected the roads in the area. As a result of this, the roads get inundated whenever there is rainfall in the area. The road from Soibugh to Russu was macadamized in the month of November without any prior patch work and as a result of this the macadam didn't last even for a week, claimed residents. |
