| Modi's way of handling Kashmir likely to embarrass Omar | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 18: Modi-led NDA Government at the Centre has given its first indication of acting tough against the separatists and Pakistan . It is also a signal to the mainstream Kashmir based parties to stop peddling on soft-separatism and perpetuate and stoke feelings of 'Kashmir nationalism'. Modi had indicated his tough approach on this account on his recent visit to the Ladakh region. However, the separatists, accustomed to the Congress way of handling, didn't take the message seriously and decided to go ahead with the talks with the Pakistan envoy. They have been doing this act for quite long but this time they had it from the Central Government, which has a new way of thinking and acting. "The separatists were told and communicated categorically through channels to stop their ways but they didn't take it seriously. Now they have realized that they are dealing with the new Government which means business only," said a senior Home Ministry official. The Modi Government had also sent a message to the Kashmir based parties that their 'soft approach ' on separatism will also not be tolerated anymore. It could be more embarrassing now especially for Omar Abdullah who had gone to the extent of questioning the very integration of the J&K with India. The Modi Government had already given enough signals and in a way reprimanded Omar Abdullah to mend his ways but now he had got the clear message. Another implication of this is that the Government will now act tough against separatists in the Valley and is quite clear about it. The clear message is that the Government will go ahead with its plan of settlement of Kashmiri Pandits in its own way and would also silence voices of the separatists opposing it. |
