JAMMU, Aug 18: Refuting the reports that Constable Sanjay Singh of Nowshera shot himself after killing two sisters of Kalakote at Thermal colony Kalakote of district Rajouri on July 27, the family members of Sanjay Singh have refused to buy the theory of police alleging a well planned conspiracy hatched by some influential people of area to save their skin.
Contesting the claims of Police, the family members of Sanjay Singh have been questioning how Sanjay Singh fired three bullets from his service rifle, one into his head and two in his stomach?. The family members, who are alleging involvement of some influential residents of area and Police officials in killing of their son and two other women, are also questioning the non conduct of autopsy on the two sisters, allegedly killed by Sanjay Singh.
Fiancee of deceased Sanjay Singh, Arti Devi alleged that Sanjay was murdered under well planned conspiracy hatched by Kalakote police especially inspector Vikarm Parihar, the then SHO Kalakote.
Recalling the horrendous night of July, 27, when she received last phone call by her fiance at around 9 PM, Arti Devi said Sanjay was very much frightened that night and was hinting towards a big trouble in which he was trapped.
"Main Bahut Badi Mussibat Main Hoon, Agar Bach Gaya To Tumhara, Nahi To Mujhe Maff Karna" (I'm in a big trouble, if manage to overcome, will be yours or else, forgive me). These were the last words of Sanjay, during our 13 minutes' last conversation on phone", said wailing Arti, adding that she realized that he was trapped by Kalakote Police.
Arti said that smelling something wrong, she made repeatedly attempts to contact Sanjay till 10:30 p.m. but he (Sanjay) did not pick the call. Terming the allegations that Sanjay killed both sisters because of failure to impress deceased Nishu Devi, for marriage, Arti Devi said that Sanjay was in love with her for past one year.
"Sanjay had recently constructed his home. On July 26, he came to Bhajnowa his native village in Nowshera and purchased material for whitewash", she said, adding that on Sunday morning Sanjay received calls from SHO and Munshi of police station Kalakote who were forcing him to join duty on same day, due to unknow reasons.
"At about 10 a.m. he (Sanjay) received a phone call from SHO and another call from Munshi at about 12 noon. Both were asking him to join duty on same day", said Raju, elder brother of constable Sanjay.
"Police informed us about the incident at 3 a.m., through our relatives who are staying in Sunderbani", said Raju, adding that he apprehended that Police would destroy Sanjay's belongings lying in their custody to destroy crucial evidence.
Denying that the girls were murdered for refusing marriage proposal, Sureshta Devi, sister of the deceased constable said that there was nothing like that, Sanjay was engaged to Arti, he was regularly in contact with her and their marriage was scheduled for later this year. "Police has destroyed all the evidence, but if any independent probe is ordered, the culprits would be exposed, nobody can save them", he said.
Questioning how a man could fire three bullet on himself at different part of body, some retired Army men in village Bhajnowa said that Sanjay was killed by third person. "Three bullets were found on his body during autopsy", said Jagdish Raj, retired captain from Indian Army.
Meanwhile, the family members of deceased girls have also alleged that a third person had killed their daughters. "Why was postmortem of my sisters not conducted?" asked Bashinder Singh, elder brother of both deceased girls, who were allegedly killed by police constable Sanjay on July 27 at Thermal Colony.
Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to investigate the mysterious killing, and report was to be submitted within 10 days, but even after lapse of more than 22 days, not a single member of SIT has visited them. "We are being discriminated on caste ground", said Bashinder adding that police, administration and politicians are trying to hush-up the matter.
However, sources in Kalakote Hospital alleged that postmortem of both Urmila and Nishu Devi was deliberately not conducted. "She (Urmila) was pregnant, and due to some un-known reasons, she had made abortive bid to end his life by hanging herself three days before she was killed mysteriously ", sources alleged, adding that no case was registered over suicide attempt.
"Even after the incident, when she made suicide attempt, a doctor from Kalakote Hospital visited her house at Thermal Colony to provided her treatment there", sources revealed.
When contacted, Additional Superintendent of Police, Nowshera Rakesh Kumar who was heading the SIT to enquire the case, said, "Now I m not heading the SIT. So I cannot comment."
SP Rajouri, Mubassir Latifi was not available for comment.
