Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 18: Eyeing on upcoming Assembly elections here in Jammu and Kashmir, Congress high command may go for major overhauling of its District Level Committees, it is learnt. Highly placed sources in Congress party revealed that "new panels have been made jointly by three party stalwarts including Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, AICC General Secretary and party affairs in-charge, J&K, Ambika Soni and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), president, Saif-ud-Din Soz. The panels are likely to be submitted before party high command for its approval." The new move is being viewed as putting new energy in the party to counter its rivals particularly the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) especially in Jammu Province. Congress has major share of seats in Jammu region. Insiders in Congress shared that "so far panels of at least six District Level Committees has been completed. It included Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Leh and Kargil districts. And out of the said six districts, five new faces may come up as party's new District Presidents. The exercise has been initiated only after listening from the party's grass root level workers, who during the day long respective conventions, conveyed to Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ambika Soni and Saif-ud-Din Soz, that if party wants to retain the Assembly seats and further hopes to get more, the only solution is to constitute the District Level Committees and give new and deserving faces." Sources further confirmed some of the names that have been put in the panel as party's district president. They included Anil Chopra as DCC president (Jammu Urban), Shiv Dev Singh as DCC president (Jammu Rural), Pankaj Dogra as DCC president, Kathua, Parkash Kumar as DCC president Samba and RS Pathania as DCC president Udhampur. Except DCC president, Samba, rest all are new and young faces, which tare in the panel. While indicating that party high command is very serious and wants to ensure to come back in power, further disclosed that "Both Ghulam Nabi Azad and Saif-ud-Din Soz in consultation with Ambika Soni have prepared the panel. The recommendations in the panel have been made only after hearing the views of the party leaders and workers during recently held district wise day long conventions. Similar panels would made once the day long conventions would be convened in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch followed by Ramban, Kishtwar, Doda and partly Reasi (Gool-Arnas and Mahore Assembly segments) Districts". |
