Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Oct 2: After the recent floods inundating most of the vital government offices here, the authorities have decided to temporary shift the Srinagar post office to Jammu.
According to the reports received by KNS, the passport office, located near the dal banks here was damaged due to the recent floods, making the functioning of the office difficult. As the major portion of this government building was under the flood waters and the aftermath turned out to be more turbulent, the state authorities have decided to shift it temporarily to Jammu in a bid to continue its functioning.
The passport officer, Firdous Iqbal when contacted, told KNS that the office is being temporarily taken to Jammu so that normal functioning could not get affected. "It is not the entire office that we are shifting to Jammu. I as an authority can tell you that the step is being taken so that the pending applications could be processed. It is being done so that in case of any emergency, if a passport is needed, a person can apply. "
He added that it was impossible to function here due to the flood aftermath and that in the month of October only; the office shall resume its functioning in Srinagar itself.
"The decision to run the application processing facilities from Jammu was taken due to extraordinary circumstances prevailing in Kashmir. Our office at Srinagar was affected due to the floods due to which we took the decision to entertain the applications from the people of Kashmir at our Jammu office," he added.
