| No third option for J&K, says Tasneem | | Raking up Siachen | | Neha jammu, Oct 2: Under pressure from the Army, ISI and terrorists, Islamabad today raked up Siachen issue and talked about the right to self-determination, thus establishing yet again that the Pakistani civil establishment has no control over the Pakistan's foreign policy vis-a-vis India. Pakistan Foreign Office (PFO) spokesperson Tasneem Aslam today said at Islamabad that it was time for New Delhi to address the Siachen issue and implement that UN resolution on Jammu and Kashmir which talked about right to self-determination. Siachen is located in the Indian territory in Jammu and Kashmir and it is being defended by the valiant Indian soldiers and, hence, it is legitimately Indian. It was not for nothing that the Indian Army threw the Pakistani invaders out of the Siachen glacial region in 1999 after making supreme sacrifices. As for the right to self-determination, she said the Kashmiri Muslims be granted the right to self-determination so that they could exercise their choice between India and Pakistan. Aslam did negate those in Pakistan who say that the Hurriyat leaders were the main stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir and that if a lasting peace was to be forged in South Asia, the resolution had to be as per the aspirations of Kashmiris and she also put those Kashmiris in their place who say day-in and day-out that Jammu and Kashmir is trilateral and not bilateral issues. It is for the discredited Hurriyat leaders or Kashmiri separatists, who demand independence both from India and Pakistan, to say what they have to say about what Tasneem Aslam said. If they remain mum or ignore what she said, then it would be a vindication of those who dismiss the Hurriyatwalas as Pakistani agents and real enemies of Kashmiri Muslims. It is a different issue that former interlocutor for Jammu and Kashmir Radha Kumar today vouched for a regime that ensures talks between Islamabad and Delhi, Hurriyat and Islamabad and Hurriyat and Delhi. She is not a naive. She knows what she says and what she says is nothing but the language of a mercenary, who thrive on foreign funding and hawala money. The Indian stand on this part of Jammu and Kashmir and the other part, which has been under the illegal occupation of Pakistan, is crystal clear: There is dispute as far as this part of the state is concerned and the only issue that needs settlement is the political future of the Pakistan-occupied-Jammu and Kashmir. It is also important to note that the UN resolutions require Pakistan to vacate the aggression and permit the Indian forces to maintain law and order in the areas to be vacated by Pakistan. Equally important is the fact that the people of this part of the state, unlike their brethren in POJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, have been exercising their right to franchise since 1951. Islamabad would do well to forget this part of Jammu and Kashmir, vacate the aggress and focus on the issues facing the people of Pakistan. |
