POONCH, Oct 2 : Perturbed over the foiling of infiltration bid by militants from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Sabzian area of Mandi sub-sector of Poonch late last night, Pak troops resorted to heavy shelling and medium arms fire as a result of which eight persons, including two women, were wounded while four houses suffered damages. The firing, which created panic in the border villages of Sabzian, also triggered fresh migration from Gagrian and its adjoining hamlets, according to official sources. Sources said an army border patrol late last night observed the movement of four to five heavily armed militants near the LoC in Sabzian area. When the troops challenged them, they immediately retreated into the Pak territory to save their lives, the sources added. Sources said after the infiltration bid was foiled, the Pak army, obviously perturned over the failed intrusion attempt, resorted to heavy shelling and medium arms fire. In the unprovoked Pak action, eight persons sustained injuries while four houses suffered partial damages. The injured included Hajira Begum, Sakina Begum, Zahoor Ahmad, Gulam Nabi, Khaja Ahmad, Mumtaz Ahmad, Mohammad Ishaq and Mustafa Ahmad. While Sakina was referred to GMCH, Jammu, the other injured were undergoing treatment in Mendhar and Poonch hospitals. In shelling, the houses of Mohammad Ishaq, Mustafa Ahmad, Abdul Majid and Mohammad Ishfaq were damaged. Sources said some people migrated from Gagrian and its adjoining villages after the last night's firing to safer places. The Sabzian areas had witnessed heavy firing on August 26 last. |
