The Maha Kali Temple Shopkeepers Union has stopped selling the marigold garlands as well as flowers for the last one month. According to the shopkeepers, they cannot afford to purchase the flowers in large quantity at higher rates and sell them cheaper. "Marigold flowers are very costly these days and it is not affordable to purchase good quality marigold flowers at higher rates and sell its garlands at nominal rates," a shopkeeper said. He added "devotees visiting the temple ask for garlands @ Rs 10 and @ Rs 20 but the special quality marigold garlands cost us minimum Rs 100 due to which we suffer losses following which, we decided to stop selling it." He however, added that due to flash floods and rains, the crop of marigold flowers, also got destroyed and it is now being sold at double rates, which is also one of the major reasons of stopping the sale of marigold garlands. |
