Butchers make merry on Eid, CAPD in slumber | Will Deptt be penalised for not doing market checking? | | Mohd Irfan
Jammu, Oct 7: In the absence of any checking by CAPD staff, butchers sold meat to people here on Eid-ul-Azha yesterday at Rs 350 per kg against the officially approved rate of Rs 280 per kg. This clearly speaks volume of non-seriousness on the part of CAPD officers who make tall claims of doing market checking on eid and other festivals. Even the divisional commissioner's instructions in this regard were not followed. Castigating CAPD for its utter failure to keep a check on those selling their products on exorbitant rates during festivals, Mohammad Amin, a consumer, said he was surprised to find that meat was being sold at higher rates in several meat shops here. "It seems as if these butchers have been selling meat on higher rates with the CAPD consent," he alleged. Official sources alleged that CAPD had also this time not published the rate list of meat in leading local dailies for the information of the general public. This could be termed as a serious mistake on the part of the department, the sources opined. Because of the CAPD failure to discharge its duty, consumers had to suffer for no fault of theirs, sources said. At some shops, consumers were seen having arguments with butchers for selling them meat on higher rates. Sources said as compared to Jammu, the meat rate was higher in Kashmir. "As per the government approved rate list, meat price is Rs 280 per kg but butchers sold it for Rs 350 per kg. Chicken was also sold at high rates," the sources added. Though repeated attempts were made to contact CAPD director, he did not pick up his phone. |
