Attempt to rope in separatists will boomerang | BJP's 'Mission 44+' | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 7: "BJP is in a self-destruction mode". This is the general view in the length and breadth of Jammu region. This view is based on the various interactions between the Early Times correspondent and certain political pundits, who are closely watching the BJP activities. One thing that was common during these interactions, which took place during the past three days, was that each and every political pundit suggested that "by trying to rope in separatists in its bid to achieve its mission 44+, the BJP is simply annoying its core constituency in the Jammu region and harming its electoral chances". "It is strange that the BJP is seeking to cultivate chairman of the People's Conference Sajjad Lone. Sajjad Lone is a well-known India-basher. He holds the view that Kashmiri Muslims are a distinct nation, who deserves the status of nationhood, as also sovereign status. He contested the last Lok Sabha election only to forfeit his security deposit. He could not lead even in a constituency his father, Late Abdul Gani Lone, represented in the Assembly a couple of times. Son-in-law of JKLF founder Aman Ullah Khan, Sajad Lone, who leads a luxurious life, has no support-base anywhere in the Valley. His views on India and Kashmir are too well-known and these are embodied in his Achievable Nationhood. And still, the BJP leadership is trying its level best to befriend him. The people of Jammu province didn't vote for the BJP in the last Lok Sabha election so that it could take recourse to politics they hate. The BJP has only disappointed its core constituency by flirting with Sajjad Lone, who is not an asset by any yardstick," told one BJP-watcher. His refrain was that the BJP has "lost touch with the masses" and that "it is pursuing a dangerous line to facilitate the entry into the organization undesirable elements". Another political pundit with whom this correspondent interacted to know what he thought about the latest induction into the BJP of a Hurriyat activist in the Rajouri area, his response was almost the same. He questioned the decision of the BJP to allow entry to Hurriyat activist Nazak Shah and said the "BJP leadership is in a haste" and "self-destruction mode". "The likes of Shah are joining the BJP with a motive. They want to create a situation in the party that would help them promote their separatist agenda, but the reckless BJP is not understanding what it is doing. It is strange. These moves are fraught with dangerous ramifications not only for the party but also for the people of Jammu province and the country. Something is wrong with the BJP leadership", he said. He also questioned the decision of the BJP to take into the party fold Abdul Gani Kohli. "Kohli is a turncoat. He has no ideology. First, he hobnobbed with the NC. Then he remained with the Congress. He ditched the Congress and joined the PDP. And now he ditched the PDP to join the BJP. These are the persons with whose help the BJP wants to achieve mission 44+. This will not happen. The BJP will lose and lose very badly by pursuing the line it is pursuing," he said. The opinion of other BJP-watchers was also more or less the same. "Attempt to rope in separatists will boomerang" was their common refrain. It is difficult to say if the BJP would deviate from the path it has started treading. |
