Anti-election protests rock Hajin ahead of polling | SHO's vehicle attacked, no casualty reported | | Syed Tahir Bukhari

BANDIPORA, Nov 24: Ahead of assembly elections, massive Anti-election protests broke out in Hajin area of Bandipora district in North Kashmir on Monday. No casualty has been, however, reported. According to sources the protesters shouting pro-freedom and election boycott slogans pelted stones on the police vehicles which were patrolling the inner links of Hajin, a day ahead of the elections. The protesters also attacked the vehicle of the Station House Officer, Hajin with stones and projectiles, sources said. Senior official from Bandipora told Early Times that, "In view of the election boycott call given by Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, elaborate arrangements have been made by Jammu and Kashmir police and security forces in volatile areas of Hajan, Markundal, Sumbal, Sonawari and other adjoining areas of Bandipora district. However, locals came out on roads with anti election, pro freedom slogans after which incidents of stone pelting were reported, sources maintained. It is pertinent to mention here that three assembly constituencies of Bandipora district will go to polls on Tuesday when the first phase of election begins in Jammu and Kashmir. Three constituencies are Bandipora, Gurez and Sonawari of the district go to polls tomorrow. Meanwhile Early Times have leant from reliable sources that authorities have deployed over 73 companies of paramilitary troopers and police to ensure smooth polling here. Elaborate arrangements have been made and requisite material and troopers have been deployed in respective assembly constituencies," said senior official from Electoral Registration office Bandipora. In the stone pelting incidents, there was no causality, till the last reports came in. |
