Over one lakh employees working in private sector get insurance benefits

Jammu, Nov 24: Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Jammu and Kashmir, Regional Director, Arvind Kumar said that 1.10 lakh employees and their family members are beneficiaries. According to press release, presently over 1.10 employees at 3500 factories, companies, establishments and institutions are under the coverage of ESIC. The Regional Director, ESIC stated that the Government of India (Ministry of Labour and Employment), on the recommendations of state Government, with a view to expand the reach of these benefits to employees of certain more pockets in and around Jammu, Samba and Kathua, has approved notifications for inclusion of 21 more areas under the coverage of ESI Scheme. He said that these areas would now comprise of all the areas under Jammu Development Authority which are contiguous to the already implemented zones and extended from time to time, revenue villages Gadi Gardh, Gurha Brahmna, Domana, Nagbani, Patoli Brahmna, Narwal Bala, Thangar, Majeen, Babliana, Barnai in Jammu District; Rakhrajpura, Sarore, Raya Morh in Samba District and Chak Raju, Chak Ram Singh, Chak Ram Singh Jagatpur, Chak Khuni, SICOP Industrial Complex, IID Centre and entire Municipal Area in Kathua, in Kathua District. He stated that the ESI Scheme would come into effect in these areas from 1st December, 2014 and all the coverable employers such as Factories, Shops, Establishments, Educational Institutions, PSUs, etc should take necessary action for getting registration under the ESI Act, 1948, in the right earnest so that their employees are able to avail of the comprehensive social security benefits under the ESI Scheme right from day one. He also informed that ESIC has conducted pre -implementation surveys at Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Salal/Reasi, Gulmarg and Pehalgam as per decisions of the ESIC Regional Board (J&K) for examining the feasibility and requirements for implementation of ESI Scheme in these areas.
