Raj Bhawan official forced acting VC to constitute review committee | Charge allowance case in JU | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 3: More skeletons have begun tumbling out of the cupboard of acting Vice-Chancellor of University of Jammu Prof. R.D. Sharma! Sources told Early Times that Sharma framed the committee for re-examining the decision taken by ex-VC to recover charge allowance paid to four Incharge Deputy Registrars and one Joint Registrar due to the interference of a top official, presently posted in Raj Bhawan. They said that the official is brother of one of the accused and has been actively pursuing the cause. Sources said that the acting VC was convinced by one of the close aides that if he would help this particular officer in this case, his name would be on the top of list of probable candidates for the post of Vice-Chancellor of University of Jammu which would be sent to the Governor N.N. Vohra for consideration and later, appointment. Convinced by the theory of the close aide, sources said that acting VC constituted the committee to re-examine thyme whole issue. The committee is headed by ex-Registrar Prof. Naresh Padha and has been assigned the task of reviewing the decision taken by ex-VC to recover charge allowance paid to four Incharge Deputy Registrars and one Joint Registrar. A senior professor said that the intent of framing the committee is to ensure no recovery from the accused officials since they have already refused to repay the huge amounts which they have already withdrawn as charge allowance. These five officials, all of whom have been enjoying prime positions in the University have said that university should have used its brain well when the charges were assigned to them. "They have no right to seek recovery from us. This is totally illegal and in complete contravention of the rules and regulations. We have been assigned charge and we are entitled to charge allowance. How can they know seek reimbursement," said one of the accused seeking anonymity. However, there is talk in the entire university that one of these five accused officials is these days enjoying proximity with acting VC and has promised to help him through his relative in getting to the prized position of permanent VC of Jammu University. It needs to be mentioned here that the five Incharge Deputy Registers against whom the recovery process was to be initiated include Incharge Joint Registrar (Finance) Dr. Jatinder Khajuria alongwith Incharge Deputy Registrars Dr. Raj Kumar, R.C. Gupta and Ajay Kumar, all of whom are working in the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) and Vivek Salathia, who is Incharge Deputy Registrar of the teaching wing. Another Incharge Deputy Registrar Tarannum Khan, who is presently out of country, also finds mention among the officials, against whom ex-VC Prof. Mohan Pal Singh Isher had ordered initiating recovery process. But the acting VC Prof. R.D.Sharma within days of taking over has framed a committee to review the decision. There are allegations that acting VC essentially wants to get the decision revoked since these five officials apart from having political and bureaucratic connections have already been saying that they would prefer approaching court of law then returning amount worth lakhs to the University. |
