Jammu, Dec 3: Notwithstanding the fact that huge amount of money is spent by the University of Jammu to maintain its Website (jammuuniversity.in), it represents a sordid tale of callousness as the media gallery has not been updated for last 3-years although some important international level activities have taken place in the university including the Indian Science Congress.
It is pertinent to mentioned that University has created a huge facility in the name of Centre for IT Enabled service headed by the Director, having number of Programmers/Engineers on its payroll but they seem to be more interested in doing things other than the ones they are suppose to.
Requesting anonymity, several University employees informed that most of these facilities/centers are created to accommodate the blue eyed boys of the higher-ups without caring for the huge expenditure incurred in running such facilities.
They also informed that University has one Computer Centre(again headed by a Director) and Centre of IT enabled service, thus maintaining multiple facilities for accomplishing similar nature of jobs. Both these facilities have been created by incurring crores of rupees but the utility remains abysmal.
Just a cursory look at the Website will give anyone an idea as to how much effort is being paid to maintain the accuracy of the information hosted on the Website.
University Calendar which is an important document has not been updated after 2010 although university prepares the same every year without fail.
Budget of the University Website has not been updated after 2012-13 allthough this is one of the important document aimed at maintaining the fiscal transparency .
If one sees the Advisory Committee of Academic Staff College, "Retired" Prof. Lokesh K Verma continues to be the Head of Department of Education displaying the approach that is followed in the updation of the Website. Similarly Prof Devanand continues to be the Dean of faculties and a professor in the Department of Computer Sciences whereas he is currently the Officiating Vice Chancellor of Central University, Jammu. Similary Prof. V.D Singh has been shown as Rector, Ramnagar Campus whereas he is currently Director of Distance Education. One can easily find out the petty spelling mistakes as one goes through the Website.
Worthwhile to mention that the University creates one facility after another, but quality of people hired for the management of such facilities remain a far cry.
It is the time University outsources the things they are incapable of handling rather than making a mess of everything thus leaving the students confused. Although University has been 'A' graded by the UGC as well as first University to get ISO certification but a deeper look can easily showcase the mismanagement of the all the affairs. People at the helm of affairs simply refuse to learn. |
