Former Congress mayor predicts doom for party in Jammu | | | Akshay Azad Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 3: Former mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Narinder Singh, known for his close affiliation to former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has predicted poor performance by the party in Jammu in ensuing Assembly elections and alleged corruption and nepotism in rank and file for its devastation. Miffed over the arrogance of party leaders, growing nepotism, failure of party leaders to take action against corrupt , Narinder Singh has reportedly decided to leave party after serving it for close to 50 years. Sources disclose that a group of former corporators had been willing to join Congress under his leadership, but party leadership spared no time organize a joining function for these corporators. "On Wednesday, former corporator of Ward number 11 of JMC, Sanjay Mahay, who was very close to former Mayor Narinder Singh joined Bhartiya Janta Party in a function organized in party office", sources said. Sources further divulged that owing to close allegiance to Narinder Singh, three corporators including Corporator Balwant Kumar of ward number 30 and Zafar Javaid Khan of ward number 2 and Sanjay Mahey have been waiting for the last nearly four years to join Congress party, but former Union Health Minister Gulam Nabi Azad had not spared few minutes to take these corporators in party fold. "Consequently former Corporator of ward number 2, Zafar Javaid Khan joined Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the month of November while Balwant Kumar alias Ballu had also joined PDP few days back and in a new development the third corporator from the group Sanjay Mahey joined BJP on Wednesday", sources said. It was reliably learnt that Zafar Javaid Khan, Sajay Mahey and Balwinder Kumar alias Ballu were in constant touch with Congress leaders and had been waiting for last more than four years to join the Congress party but the cold response of Congress party compelled them to join other parties. Former mayor of JMC, Narinder Singh who is considered close to Gulam Nabi Azad is reportedly miffed over the callous attitude of party leaders, in taking action against the corrupt leaders and failure to incorporate suggestions of workers to strengthen party. "Corrupt leaders are ruling the roost in Congress party, which is totally handicapped to take any action against its corrupt Ministers including Tara Chand, Manohar Lal Sharma beside others. Touts, corrupt workers and leaders are entertained and their suggestions while honest are always ignored. Only during elections party leaders recalled workers and forget them after elections. Such practices in party has been compelling honest workers to leave party", sources said, adding that these reasons might be compelling Narinder Singh to leave party. When contacted former Mayor Narinder Singh, he agreed that though he had not decided to join any other party but he was likely to leave Congress party. |
