Early Times Report

JAMMU, Nov 3: The BJP leadership has, it appears, turned perverted. It is making ridiculous statements and annoying its constituency in J&K -- especially Jammu and Ladakh - and rest of the country. It is making such statements hoping that the BJP would win a seat or two in Kashmir valley, which is unlikely to happen considering the voting pattern. Kashmiri Muslims are not going to vote for the BJP candidates.
They are coming out in large numbers only to see to it that the BJP doesn't open its account in the Valley like in the past.
There is a view that the "BJP is willfully working for its defeat as it wants Kashmir to have a dominant position in the state polity".
On the other hand, the BJP has spoiled its chances in Jammu province. Earlier, there was a view that the BJP might win some 30 odd seats in Jammu province, but things have changed considerably after PM Modi addressed an election rally at Kishtwar where he only talked about Kashmir and Kashmiriat. It is difficult to say if the BJP would win even 20 seats in Jammu.
It appears the vested interests in Kashmir or supporters of Kashmiri separatists in the BJP are misguiding PM Modi. In fact, the critics of the BJP within the BJP are accusing the senior BJP leadership of "dancing to the tunes of HinaBhat and others of her ilk for reasons best known to it".
This assessment cannot be contested for the reason that the BJP took a U-turn on Article 370 only after HinaBhat threatened that she would turn a militant and took up arms if the BJP abrogated Article 370.
That the BJP leadership has turned perverted in its bid to appease Kashmiri separatists could be seen from the statements its leaders have made during the past few days. First, the BJP did not release its election manifesto which, according to insiders, contained a reference to Article 370 and contained many other Jammu-related issues, including the issue of discrimination.
Its leadership, on the contrary, made it public that it was not raising the issue of Article 370 in this election and that the BJP would go by what the Kashmiri Muslims think about this Article.
Then, a BJP leader from Jammu made a statement in Srinagar that "Islam would further flourish in the state if the BJP is voted to power".
Thirdly, the same BJP leader, who is in-charge of party affairs in Kashmir, a couple of days ago said that if the BJP was voted to power it will make Armed Forces Special Powers Act defunct. Earlier, one BJP national general secretary declared in Srinagar that no BJP leader should raise any political issue in the election campaign. He forgot that elections mean politics.
All these statements had caused widespread resentment in Jammu, but the perverted BJP leadership didn't take note of it. Instead, BJP leader, who is in-charge of J&K BJP, further angered the people of Jammu by publicly admiring traitor Sajjad Lone, chairman of Peoples Conference.
The BJP leader presented Sajjad Lone as its hero in Kashmir and urged other separatists to follow Lone, who earlier had a one-on-one meeting with PM Modi in Delhi. Ironically, Lone said that no force on earth can abrogate Article 370 and that he was not going to help it. Lone is the author of anti-India "Achievable Nationhood". People had taken serious exception to this statement of the BJP leader.
These and similar other statements made by senior BJP leaders in Kashmir have made many in Jammu to conclude that the "BJP is not reliable" and that "it would cause more harm to the country if it gets more seats in the assembly elections".
The BJP leadership, it appears, is not going to change its election strategy and this does not augur well for the state and the party which adopted 44+ seats in the assembly elections as its mission.
