JU loses to LPU in close contest | NZ Inter-University Football Tourney | |
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 3: University of Jammu (JU) proved to be unlucky when they lost to well-equipped side of Lovely Professional University (LPU) 3-4 via tie-breaker in the second round of the ongoing North Zone Inter-University Football (men) Tournament hosted by Punjab University Chandigarh today. Aware of the fact that two Nigerians were playing for the opponent side, JU still fought throughout the game to hold LPU to a goalless draw in the stipulated time. However, men from Jammu could resist the pressure in penalties and lost the game 3-4 to pack up. "The boys played nicely against a well equipped side and gave a tough fight to the professional players, especially those Nigerians thus attracted the attention of the audience. The crowd supported us especially when we missed the target on free kicks not once but twice. On both the occasions the ball hit the goal bar thereby dejected the whole lot of the team," informed team coach, Gagan Kumar. Earlier, in the tie-breaker, Raza Hassan, Arun Nangyal and Ishan Gupta successfully netted the ball while Shubam Sambyal and Avinash missed the target.
