Jammu, Dec 3: His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Fr. Ivan Pereira as the new Bishop of Jammu-Srinagar that covers the volatile northern most state of Jammu and Kashmir. The announcement was made today at St. Mary's Garrison Church Jammu, India and at corresponding hours at the Vatican. Fr. Ivan Pereira was born to Albert Pereira and (Late) Santan Pereira on 1st June 1964 in Vasai, Maharashtra. After receiving his call to Priesthood, and being specifically drawn to join the Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar, he joined the St. Mary John Vianney Minor Seminary, Amritsar, Punjab in 1984.Thereafter he was sent to Holy Trinity Regional Seminary, Jalandhar, Punjab, to complete his Philosophical studies. Having completed his philosophical studies he spent a year doing his Regency in St. Mary's Cathedral, Jammu Cantt. Later, to complete his Theology, he was sent to St. Joseph's Regional Major Seminary. Allahabad, UP, in 1989, and, on 15th May 1993, he was ordained as a Priest in Our Lady of Grace Cathedral, Papdy, Vasai. He has served the diocese of Jammu Srinagar for the last 21 years in various capacities, such as, Secretary to the Bishp, Corporate Manager of the Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar Education Society, Assistant Procurator of the Diocese, Member of Finance Committee, Member of the College of Consultors, and Vicar General. Besides being Manager and Principal of some prominent schools, namely, St. Peter's School, B.C.Road, Fatima Convent School, Bishnah and Burn Hall School, Srinagar, he has officiated as the Chairman of the Diocesan Board of Education of the Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar Education Society
